R es. 38 (2), 7382 (1971). Mice can be passively protected against infection w ith C ory nebacterium p seudotubermlosis w ith hyperimmune rabbit serum prepared against whole bacterial cells. T he mechanism of immunity depends on the inhibition of secondary multiplication of the bacteria, not on antitoxic activity or enhanced phagocytosis and destruction . Passive transfer of macrophages obtained from mice immunized with inact ivated vaccine to susceptible mice which were subsequently challenged showed that the macrophages have no specific Immun!Zlng properties.

The stimulating effect of levamisole on immunity to Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis in mice was marginal, while no enhancement of immunity could be detected in sheep. The conclusion was reached that, as levamisole has no potentiating effect on immunity to C. pseudotuberculosis in normal sheep, it is of no practical value as an immunostimulant in this instance.
